Ingredients for Stewed Prunes Recipe

  • 1/2 pound of prunes
  • Water (amount varies based on container size)
  • 1/4 cup of sugar or sucralose
  • 1 tablespoon of lemon juice


  1. Wash and drain prunes.
  2. Place in a bowl and cover with cold water.
  3. Cover and allow to stand for approximately 24 hours.
  4. Place prunes and the soak water into a saucepan or stock pot.
  5. Add additional water as needed to cover soaked prunes.
  6. Bring to a boil.
  7. Reduce heat and allow to simmer for 20 minutes.
  8. Add sugar or sucralose and lemon juice.
  9. Stir to combine.
  10. Simmer for 15 minutes longer.
  11. Serve hot or cold.
