Hamburger Steak Recipe


Ingredients for Hamburger Steak Recipe

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon seasoned salt, divided
  • 1/4 cup bread crumbs
  • 1/8 tsp ground black pepper
  • 1/2 tsp onion powder
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 1 cup thinly sliced onion
  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1 tbsp cooking sherry


  1. In a large bowl, combine ground beef, egg, bread crumbs, pepper, 1/2 teaspoon salt, onion powder, garlic powder, and Worcestershire sauce.
  2. Roll meat into 8 balls, then press into patties.
  3. Heat oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
  4. Brown patties and onion in the oil until patties are evenly browned, approximately 4 minutes on each side.
  5. Once browned, remove patties and set aside on a covered dish.
  6. Sprinkle flour over the onions and drippings in the skillet.
  7. Whisk in flour with an egg beater, scraping bits of beef off of the bottom as you mix the flour.
  8. Slowly add in the beef broth and sherry.
  9. Add remaining seasoned salt. Simmer and stir over medium heat for approximately 5 minutes, until the gravy thickens.
  10. Turn heat to low, return beef patties to the gravy, cover, and simmer for an additional 15 minutes.
