Ingredients for Green Apple Pie Recipe

  • 1 recipe Basic Pie Crust
  • 4 pounds green apples, peeled, cored and sliced (try combining two types of apples for a more complex flavor)
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon of lemon juice
  • Zest of half of a lemon
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon allspice
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt.
  • 2 egg whites, beaten
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar


  1. Preheat your oven to 425 degrees.
  2. Roll out one ball of pie dough. Place bottom crust in pan and return to refrigerator.
  3. Prepare apples, and combine with 3/4 cup of sugar, lemon juice, lemon zest, cinnamon, allspice, and salt.
  4. Pour apple mixture into crust.
  5. Roll out second round of pie dough. Top the pie and crimp edges.
  6. Cut slits in the top of the pie.
  7. Brush top crust with egg white and sprinkle with sugar.
  8. Bake pie for about 15 minutes, until the top crust begins to brown.
  9. Reduce oven temperature to 350 degrees and continue baking for 35 to 45 minutes, until the pie is golden and the apples are soft.
