Molten Chocolate Cake

A perfect dessert for the chocolate lover in your family. Serves 4.


  • 4 eggs
  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 1/2 cup butter, melted
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup baking cocoa
  • 1 tablespoon instant coffee granules
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • Whipped cream, optional
  • Fresh berries (raspberries, preferably), optional


  1. Set slow cooker to low heat.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, beat butter, eggs, sugar, and vanilla until light and fluffy.
  3. Carefully mix flour, cocoa, coffee granules, and salt into butter mixture until thoroughly combined.
  4. Transfer batter to a slow cooker.
  5. Cover slow cooker and cook for 2.5 to 3 hours, or until a toothpick comes out with moist crumbs.
  6. Serve with whipped cream and fresh berries if desired.

Cranberry Stuffed Apples

    5 medium tart apples
  • 1/3 cup fresh or frozen cranberries, chopped (if frozen, should be thawed before use in the recipe)
  • 1/4 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup walnuts, chopped
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground nutmeg

  1. Set slow cooker to low heat.
  2. Core apples, and place in slow cooker.
  3. Combine cranberries, brown sugar, walnuts, cinnamon, and nutmeg, spoon into apples.
  4. Cook apples for four to five hours or until tender.
  5. Top apples with whipped cream or ice cream if desired.

These pears are as lovely as they are delicious. Serves 4.

    1 1/2 cups dry red wine
  • 1/3 cup packed brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons dried cherries
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 whole star anise
  • 1 dried Sichuan peppercorn, optional
  • 4 ripe pears, preferably Bosc due to their texture
  • Whipped cream or melted chocolate, if desired


  1. Set slow cooker to low heat.
  2. Peel and core pears, and place in slow cooker.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, combine wine, brown sugar, cherries, cinnamon, star anise, and peppercorn, if desired.
  4. Pour wine mixture over pears.
  5. Cook pears for 4 to 5 hours, or until almost tender.
  6. Serve pears with a spoonful of cooking liquid, and top with whipped cream or melted chocolate, if desired.
