- ¼ cup of fat or bacon, cut in small pieces

- 2 cups bread crumbs

- 1 small bay leaf
- ½ cup boiling water
- Melt fat in a saucepan over low heat. Stir in onion and bread.
- Stir over low heat until crumbs begin to brown, then add seasonings and boiling water.
- Let mixture cool off before using it to stuff chicken, turkey, or game.
