Ingredients for White Layer Cake Recipe 1

  • 3 egg whites
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 recipe sour cream or chocolate fudge filling
  • 1 recipe frosting, below

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  2. Grease and flour two 9" round cake pans.
  3. Cream the sugar and butter together.
  4. Beat 1 egg white slightly, and add to the creamed butter and sugar.
  5. Sift the baking powder with the flour.
  6. Add the milk and the flour alternately to the first mixture.
  7. Add vanilla and stir to mix.
  8. Beat the remaining egg whites until stiff, and fold into the batter.
  9. Bake in layers for 30 minutes, until a toothpick inserted in the center of the cake comes out clean.
  10. Allow to cool completely on a wire rack.
  11. Remove layers from pan.
  12. Fill with chocolate fudge filling, sour cream filling, or other desired filling.
  13. Frost cake using recipe below.

White Layer Cake Frosting

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 sticks of unsalted butter, softened
  • 3 1/2 cups sifted powdered sugar
  • 1 tablespoon milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Cream butter in a mixing bowl until smooth.
  2. Add sugar, mixing to combine.
  3. Stir in milk and vanilla.
  4. Frost cake.
