Homemade Ice Cream

Ice cream is one of those treats you can enjoy all year (even during winter). If you find your sweet cravings kicking in but don't want to run to the grocery store, you're in for a treat. We have a recipe for homemade ice cream made with evaporated milk that will have everyone grabbing a spoon.

How to Make Ice Cream With Evaporated Milk

All you need are some simple ingredients and an ice cream maker. If you don't have one, no weat. We have a no-churn suggestion. This recipe makes 8 to 12 servings.

Ingredients

  • 6 large eggs
  • 2½ cups of sugar
  • 2 (13-ounce) cans of evaporated milk
  • 1 (14-ounce) can of sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 tablespoon of vanilla extract
  • 1¾ quarts of milk (whole, skim, or 2 percent)

Instructions

  1. Crack the eggs into a large mixing bowl.
  2. Beat eggs with a mixer for approximately 5 minutes.
  3. Add sugar, evaporated milk, condensed milk, vanilla, and 1 quart of the milk.
  4. Stir to combine.
  5. Pour the mixture into a 2-quart ice cream freezer.
  6. Pour in the remaining milk to reach the fill line on the canister. Avoid overfilling.
  7. Freeze following the manufacturer's instructions for your specific ice cream freezer model.
Helpful Hack

Try this non-churn method if you don't have an ice cream maker. Pour your ice cream into a resealable 2-gallon Ziplock bag or a plastic container with a lid. Freeze in your refrigerator, mixing it often.

Six Flavor-Bursting Combos to Try

Everyone loves a good variety. Before throwing your ice cream mixture into the freezer, add these mixins to recreate some of your favorite flavors.

1. Tutti Frutti Ice Cream

Create a fruity mix by adding some of your favorite fruits. Stir in 2 cups of mashed fruit (we recommend blueberries and raspberries) and an extra ½ cup of sugar (optional). If you want a little crunch in your ice cream, crush some graham crackers and mix it in.

2. Minty Chocolate Peppermint

If you're feeling the holidays and looking for a minty delight, stir in a few cups of crushed hard peppermint candies and a bag of mini milk chocolate chips. This combo is a true peppermint perfection.

3. Classic Cookies & Cream

You can never go wrong with cookies and cream. Mix in four cups of crushed cookies (whatever variety you prefer). Save some extra cookies to sprinkle on top of the ice cream after it's frozen.

4. Nutty Rocky Road

For a nutty rocky road blend, stir in a bag of mini chocolate chips and four cups of miniature marshmallows. Mix well, and add 1 cup of your favorite chopped nuts for that rocky crunch.

5. Creamy Honey & Lemon

If you're looking for something lighter, lemon and honey make a refreshing and sweet combo. Stir in the zest of 2 lemons and drizzle honey (or spicy honey if you're feeling adventurous). Add extra honey after the ice cream solidifies.
