Ingredients for Egg Biscuits Recipe

  • 2 cups bread flour, measured after sifting once
  • 5 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 2 tablespoons shortening
  • 1 egg yolk, slightly beaten
  • 2/3 cup milk


  1. Sift together the bread flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar. Work the shortening in with your fingers.
  2. Mix together the egg and milk, cutting it in to the mixture with a knife.
  3. Toss on a floured board and knead for 5 minutes.
  4. Shape into biscuits.
  5. Bake for 15 minutes at 400 degrees.
  6. Brush with milk or melted butter just before removing from the oven.
